Behind the Glass

When I look outside my window I see people

People who used to be clear now masked

Expressions, emotions hidden under that dark screen

This new normal must be stopped

Before I lose all I used to know

I used to see kids running the streets, now empty

I used to see restaurants packed full, now empty

I used to see teachers and students learning, now empty

I used to see faces filled with joy, now empty

Yet all is not lost

The birds beautiful song still remains

Childrens playful scream still remains

The connection of friends and family still remains

Night and day still remains

But throughout the chaos, I still see hope

That I will soon step beyond the glass

Into a new world with a new perspective

Now knowing to take nothing for granted
