The Inside

As I walked through the streets of the city last night upset and sniffling the strangest thing happened. A strange man pulled me into an alleyway and said, “make a wish.” My mind went blank and I froze up. You always dream of what you would wish for if this were to happen and it was finally my time. I wanted my wish to be different, not “make me rich” or “help me find love.” I wanted it to have an impact on the whole world. I took a deep breath and said “I wish that beauty would be viewed from within the inside rather than the outside.”

The man gave me a puzzled look and said, “really” but I was sure that this was my best wish. I was so tired of good people suffering from things out of their control. The stranger looked at me, winked and walked away. I went on with my life thinking he was just another crazy man in the city. I arrived back at my apartment and went to sleep.

I woke up the next morning eager to go on with my day. I had the strangest feeling something good was going to happen. I jumped up with excitement and went to check my calendar when I saw the worst thing possible. I had my highschool reunion that night. I instantly got chills all throughout my body and the sudden urge to faint. My highschool experience was not a good one to say the least. I had been bullied and teased because of my rare skin condition. I looked differently from others and this made a perfect opportunity for teasing.

I built up the courage to go and went into a state of rush to get everything I needed. I got the most beautiful dress and heels and headed to the highschool I attended. When I walked in the whole room turned and stared. I was used to this type of attention because of my skin. To my surprise I had a whole line of people coming to talk to me and introduce themselves. The gentlemen were complimenting me on my gorgeous looks. This had never happened to me before. I was in shock that so many people thought I was this beautiful. I even got some compliments saying, “you have the most pretty skin I have ever seen.” I was high on life and wondered what had changed from when we were in highschool just a couple years ago. I looked up and spotted that strange man from the streets. He gave me a big smile and then left the building. My wish had come true.
