The Dream

I woke up from a nightmare in the middle of the night. It was about the horror movie I had just watched a few hours earlier. My house felt empty and quiet, but I figured that was because everyone was asleep. I tried to go back to sleep, but after about 5 minutes of lying in the darkness, an unusual sound came from the hall. The noise was similar to a dog snarling, but a human imitating the sound. I walked toward the door, creaked the door open and peered outside. That’s when I saw the girl or it, floating in the hallway, sitting in a cross-legged position. I thought of the girl as it, because she didn’t look normal, or human. There was a dark shadow emanating from her. Her skin was pale, and her eyes were sunken into her head, extremely long, gray hair. She looked like a corpse. I stared, speechless. After a few seconds, I ran to my brother’s room. He wasn’t there. The girl hadn’t moved yet. I then burst into my parents room. They were gone as well. The girl was moving closer , and I ran down the stairs, to find a place to hide. At the foot of the stairs, I looked down the hall toward the kitchen. I screamed. The girl was in the dining room, still hovering. A vengeful expression was on her face, as if she had been waiting for this moment her whole life. I tried to run back upstairs, but I was stuck. The girl let out a screeching sound that you could probably hear from a few houses down. She rushed towards me. I closed my eyes, expecting my demise. I woke up, and ran to the hall, checking to see if it really was just a dream. I sighed, seeing my brother sleeping.
