Adrenaline is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands, especially in conditions of stress, increasing rates of blood circulation, breathing, and carbohydrate metabolism and preparing muscles for exertion. In the human body, this is different. Adrenaline, also called epinephrine, is a hormone released by your adrenal glands and some neurons. Adrenaline helps your body react more quickly. It makes the heart beat faster, increases blood flow to the brain and muscles, and stimulates the body to make sugar to use for fuel.
Adrenaline will later play a huge role in Chev Chelios’ life. Chev Chelios lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his girlfriend Sarah. Chev is a retired Marine. He spent his time in Benghazi fighting for his country. He was a decorated Marine and was well known for his acts overseas. But now life back home isn’t as good. He works a typical 9-5 marketing job in the city during the day time. He is in an abusive on and off relationship with Sarah. They constantly fight, hit each other, and are constantly broken up but it always seems they find their way back to each other. Chev’s living conditions aren’t the best as he lives in a run-down apartment just outside the city. But what most people don’t know is that Chev works as a hitman at night. He works his nights taking orders and making money off it. Chev’s 9-5 job was not enough for him and his girlfriend to get by.
Chev doesn’t really know who he works for; all the communication they have is through the middle man Carlito. He meets Carlito at around eight o’clock each night at the same Chinese restaurant. He gets paid in cash at the end of each week depending on how well he does. It’s not a lot but it is more than the job he works at. Chev’s military background helps out a lot during this job. He could be hundreds of yards away and still get the job taken care of. No matter the conditions he is determined to do his job just to get the money. He doesn’t like that he has to do this but he really has no choice. If he quits this job as a hitman he knows very bad things can happen. His boss has full control over him and his life. Chev knows he has to keep a low profile or horrible things can happen. But Chev always has to watch his back. At any moment he knows he could either be kidnapped or at the worst be murdered. He works in a dangerous industry and has hopes to get out of it one day. He hates having to hide it from his girlfriend too, he knows if she finds out she’ll leave him for good or worse turn him in and he could go to jail. She thinks he works at the Chinese restaurant at night. He gets home late some nights and she worries about him, but he has her convinced it’s just the restaurant. The only person that knows is Carlito. Chev and Carlito have become very close through their work. They always have each other’s back and have become more like brothers during their time together. Carlito works for his mafia boss in Philadelphia. Carlito doesn’t like what he does too but he is in the same situation as Chev, he does it for the money. Even Carlito doesn’t really know what goes on with the higher people; he just knows the boss and some of his workers. They work against another mafia in Philadelphia for control of the city. There is a lot of money in this business and Carlito gets paid more than Chev. But Chev does all of the dirty work. Things have been bad between the two mafias. The two are ruled by violence and power. This puts Carlito and Chev in very dangerous positions as there is not much protection for the two of them. But as they think things are fine stuff starts to spiral out of control. The nights become more dangerous as more and more people are dying, but Carlito and Chev still have to do their jobs to keep a good relationship with their bosses. But what seemed dangerous for Chev on these nights will not match what is about to happen.
After a long night at the Chinese restaurant, Chev heads home exhausted. He doesn’t even make it to his bed and ends up falling asleep on the couch. He is awakened by Sarah’s scream. He sees two men holding on to Sarah then he is injected with a poison.
The man that injected ran out yelling, “if you don’t wanna die you gonna after to find Julio for help.”
This poison was no ordinary poison. It slows the heart rate down and slowly the heart stops beating and the person dies. At that moment Chev realizes this. He feels his heart start to slow so he jumps out his chair and beats up the two men holding on to Sarah. Sarah franticly yells at Chev, “What the hell was that?”
